Frequently Asked Questions

How will we obtain our marriage license if we arrive on the weekend and want to get married right away?

The Department of Health has made it possible for couples who cannot come in during regular hours, to obtain their marriage license from field agents. These agents issue licenses from their homes on weekends and in the evening. It does require an appointment and we can assist you with this.

How will our ceremony go?

Your wedding is all pre-planned and arranged for you by our wedding specialists before you arrive. If you have special requests, you need to let us know ahead of time; a poem reading, etc., so that we can see where to fit it in (beginning, end?). The ceremony itself lasts about 12 minutes. Please allow about 30 minutes total. Allow 45 minutes to 1¼ hours for ceremonies with photography and video.

We will be bringing your flower order with us. Your photographer will take some pictures before, during and after the ceremony. Then we fill out the marriage license together and we file it back with the Department of Health. Your photographer will have your photos developed, put them in an album and will mail it to you. For some of our packages he will give the roll of film to you to have developed yourself. If you choose the digital CD, he will mail it to you.

For the larger weddings with a full wedding party and lots of guests you may request a rehearsal the day before, if you like (additional fee). But for the smaller ceremonies, couple only and a few guests, we go over everything with you right before your ceremony.

Can we choose from different wedding ceremonies?

Yes, we offer a variety of ceremonies, including these popular choices:

#3. TRADITIONAL (most popular) - This ceremony speaks to your commitment to each other as a couple, and has a couple of prayers. A reading from the bible may also be added, if you like.

#2. RELIGIOUS - CHRISTIAN - Religious ceremony for all Christian faiths. Includes Bible, God, Jesus & The Holy Spirit.

#1. COMMITMENT - This non-religious ceremony will speak only to your commitment to one another as a couple. No prayers or bible readings.

Vows for #1 & 3: "I _____, take you _____ as my friend and love, beside me and apart from me, in laughter and in tears, in conflict and serenity, asking that you be, none other then yourself. I give to you this day, a promise of my love, as we go forth, as husband and wife."

Vows for #2: In the name of God, I, _____, take you, _____, to be my wife/husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to honor, for all the days of our lives.

Please feel free to write your own vows of love to one another, not the whole ceremony, just the vows you speak to each other. If you do write your own vows, please email them to us at least 2 weeks prior to your ceremony so we can print them on your commemorative certificate.

    Additional readings are available:
*From The Prophet, Kahil Gibran. - "Let there be spaces in your togetherness..."
*Bible, Corinthians 13. - "Love is patient. love is kind..."
Or bring your own personal favorite.

What do you mean by "assistance with obtaining our marriage license"?

Before your arrival, we will email you all the necessary information you need to have to obtain your Hawaii license, including a link to download the application, so that you can have it filled out and ready when you go to the Department of Health. We further assist our international visitors with any needed information pertaining to their countries requirements.

Often couples arrive over the weekend and want to be married on the weekend. We then make arrangements for them with a field agent from the Department of Health to obtain the marriage license at the agent's home. After the wedding ceremony we will fill out the license together, and we will then file it back with the Department of Health for you. There is no need for anyone to accompany you to the licensing department, as it is first come first serve.

Should we have a meeting before the ceremony?

There is no need for a meeting before your wedding day, unless you require one (extra fee). For most weddings we simply go over everything with you just before your wedding.

Should we have a rehearsal before the ceremony?

Rehearsals cost extra. For larger weddings with a large wedding party (8 to 12 or more) plus a lot of guests, you will need to have a wedding coordinator. They will be setting everything up for you & instructing the wedding attendants & guests. The minister does offer this service, but there is an additional coordinating fee as it is time consuming. This is a nice way for you to offer to a friend to assist you.

The minister's fee is for performing the wedding ceremony & completing the legal documents for you (usually 30 to 45 minutes total). The larger weddings take longer. The minister usually arrives before the actual ceremony to go over everything with you. Your wedding attendants & guests should arrive 15 minutes to half hour before your scheduled time with us.

Are there any hidden costs or fees?

All our packages and services are as presented on our website and in our emails. There are no extra charges or fees other then the ones described for you. The Department of Health will charge you a $60.00 fee when you go into pick up your marriage license. The only additional charges would be if you want us to rent a private location for you.. There is also a 4.166% tax added to each package.

Can we choose our own ceremony location in Waikiki?

A lot of considerations go into selecting a location for a wedding. The photographers, videographer, vocalist, etc. have equipment to carry and care for. Restrooms & parking availability are other things we look for, as well as ease ability to get there, and if there are several different sights for the photos (not just ocean, etc). Plus we look for some kind of shelter in case of sprinkles.

Parking is the biggest concern in the Waikiki area ($3 to $5 per 1/2 hour min.). Even after finding parking, there is a bit of a walk to get to most locations. Waikiki is also usually very crowded & noisy. We have carefully chosen our oceanfront locations to be sure they included most all the things mentioned above. We would have to ask you to take this into consideration when attempting to choose a Waikiki location on your own.

What are the flowers like?

You may choose the colors that you would like in your lei's, bouquet, etc. but not the flowers. It all depends on what flowers are available at the time of your wedding (roses are an exception, always available). I'm sorry we don't have color photos or brochures to send you. In order for us to keep our package prices affordable we have all our photos on our website.

What are your payment, deposit and cancellation policies?

    Deposit Policy:

    Overtime Fees:

There will be a $50.00 per vendor (minister, photographer, videographer, etc.) overtime fee charged if you arrive late, or if your ceremony is delayed past the time of your scheduled & pre-arranged ceremony time (payable on site). We dislike having to charge any extra fees, and even though it happens very rarely, at times it is necessary!
