Today, the groom commonly wears the maile leaf lei. A haku lei is often worn by the bride, rather than a headpiece. Pikake (white jasmine) is many times worn with maile leaf by the groom. Customarily, wedding guests also wear strands of pikake.
The traditional exchange of ceremonial leis is performed along with the Hawaiian blessing, which celebrates the couple's dedication and affection for one another.
